Couple Therapy

"Seldom, or perhaps never, does a marriage develop into an individual relationship smoothly and without crisis.  There is no coming to consciousness without pain."  (C.G. Jung)

In couple therapy, you practice role reversal by being an empathic listener while your partner tells his story.  Then you reverse roles to tell the story from your own perspective. Later you dialogue with your partner, learning to effect mature communication by asking questions that  show interest in the otherís experience and by refusing to attack or blame.  The goal is for each partner to increase in self-awareness so that disappointments, inadequacies and unfulfilled wishes are not projected onto the other.
